Basic Granola Recipe

Good Morning and happy Tuesday 🙂 Today I want to share a basic granola recipe I found on pinterest. This Christmas I wanted to make a gift for loved ones that was a little bit healthier than cookies because we all know that by January 1st we have all hit sugar overload. I quickly came to the decision of granola. I love granola and find that most other people do as well.

I haven’t taken the time to test out alot of recipes to find out which I like best since I just started making it homemade in the last few months but I have had lots of success with this recipe and keep going back to it. It is pretty basic (as stated in the title..haha) and uses ingredients I already have on hand.

The most important thing is not to burn your granola. This is very easy for me to do because it seems to happen so quickly. Take it out right as it stars to golden and be sure to flip it as the recipe states. Also keep in mind that your granola will harden as it cools 🙂

CHANGES TO RECIPE :The only change I made with this recipe is using canola oil instead of vegetable oil and it turned out great. *I also just recently made it without any brown sugar to try to make it a bit healthier and still love it…although the other version was a bit closer to what you would buy at the store.

I simply put the granola in old peanut butter jars tied a bow around and voila a wonderful yummy gift was made.

Orange Cake Recipe Review

I needed a cake for my sisters birthday a few days ago so I began searching for the perfect one. I knew I didn’t want to make a typical cake because she isn’t a fan of icing or traditional birthday cake. Instead I wanted to make something light and fresh. Enter Orange Cake.  I looked at a few pinterest but ultimately decided on this one on allrecipes.

I did make a few substitutions:

Vanilla Pudding instead of lemon

Added pure orange extract instead of lemon

In the end I would say I was satisfied with the overall cake but not wowed. I would in no way compare it to the Orange Crunch Cake we had in Captiva at The Bubble Room….it doesn’t even come close. Mine seemed a bit dry because I got nervous about it not being done enough and left it in the oven a little longer. (bad idea. I also may have done something wrong with the glaze because it never really hardened like I had hoped it would.

Conclusions-It may have been better if I wouldn’t have over baked it, and maybe having some of the lemon flavor would have gave it a little bit of zip and freshness I was looking for.

Cheeburger Cheeburger Review- Sanibel Florida

I am the type of person that considers restaurants and meals part of the total experience of vacation. I spend hours and hours looking up reviews and making plans of every restaurant I want visit. To some this may sound crazy but for me it is part of the fun and allows us to avoid the “I cant believe we ate there” moments….most of the time 🙂

Our first trip to Sanibel two months ago was like most others. I researched and made a list of all my favorites and got a chance to try most of them. Over the next comple of weeks I will be posting reviews of my experiences.

First Up: Cheeburger Cheeburger

(Photo found on TripAdvisor)

Now this actually was NOT on my list of must dos when leaving home. After a few hours at the beach and talking to another family about our love for a good burger they pointed us to Cheeburger Cheeburger. Wedecided to give it a try and arrived for an early dinner around 5pm.

First Impression: Nice Exterior. Connected to a little shopping center with a few stores. At first we were thrown off my the empty parking lot, but realized that was likely due to it only being  5 o’clock  and most people being on island time…haha. However our impressions were lowered once we were actually inside the restaurant. Was it terrible? No. Everything just felt a bit past its prime. I’m sure most people wouldn’t mind the condition at all, maybe I just had high expectations??

After taking a few minutes to look at the menu we decided that we weren’t all that hungry so we would share a Semi Serious Burger (1/3lb) and order a medium “Best of Both” (fries and onion rings serves 2/3). One of the highlight of the burger was the endless free toppings. Boy O Boy, we took advantage of that.

I think we ended up getting: Lettuce, Tomato, Onions, Pickle, Mayo, BBQ Sauce, 2 Onion Rings (really!?!),Banana Peppers,Coleslaw,Pineapple, and Relish. Ya, we went all out. 🙂 Our server also offered to have it cut in half which was really nice.

Sorry about not so great picture. This was taken before I had any intention of reviewing our meals. (Yes, we have always taken pictures of our food on our trips…we are weird like that). Although quite messy and not all the appetizing in the picture, we enjoyed this burger. Was it the best we have ever had…no. Would I make it a must do on future trips…no. But all together it was pretty good.

Now along with our burger we had this monster:

Basket

This is the “Best of Both” basket. This is where my review goes downhill a little bit. I will admit in the picture they look pretty darn tasty… But in real life, not so much. The problem we had with these was the grease. They were SO greasy. This is probably the time I should point out that I LOVE french fries. I have been known to order a salad and a side of fries for lunch. You give me a good fry and I am a happy camper. I really wanted to love this basket but I just didn’t.  The onion rings weren’t quite up to par either. I like a nice thick onion though, so that may have been the problem there. A few other people in our group decided to eat here a little later in the week and had the same experience with the grease , so I felt better that we weren’t alone in our thinking.

All together I would say that we had an okay experience at Cheeburger Cheeburger. I’m sure you can come to the conclusion that we likely wouldn’t put this on our must do list, but are glad that we gave it a try. If you have any questions feel free to ask
