Home From our Trip

We are now home from our anniversary trip. It was an absolutely amazing trip. We had an wonderful time visiting Sea World, Aquatica, Discovery Cove, Art of Animation, Disney Resorts, and of course TONS of Orlando’s restaurants. I will take a few posts to close my Sanibel reviews and then work on squeezing in a few Orlando reviews here and there over the next few weeks…ok let’s be honest it will likely take me months.

My transition to a healthy lifestyle crashed and burned on vacation, but I am working to get back on track. I even took the time to get in a few runs so far this week. 🙂

The Bubble Room-Orange Crunch Cake

Another restaurant we visited while on vacation was The Bubble Room. This restaurant is actually in Captiva, which was a short drive from where we were staying in Sanibel.

From all I read online, this is pretty well known restaurant. It does seem to be a love it of hate it type of place though. After reading lots and lots of reviews the one thing that got consistent good reviews were the cakes. Now I am a huge lover of sweets. I love cookies, cakes, ice cream and pretty much anything with a cup of sugar and stick of butter in it.

After taking into consideration all of the reviews, I decided our best decision would be to just stop in for desert. I was very excited to learn that we could order the desert to go. No reason to wait an hour for a table just to eat some cake.

Upon arriving to the restaurant we found out just how bad the parking can be. I think we arrived around 6:30pm. It felt like  every parking spot within a one mile radius was taken. Luckily we finally did find a spot and made our way to the restaurant. It was indeed very busy that night, with lots of families waiting outside to be seated.

We made our way into the restaurant and found the take out counter immediately on the left when we entered. (Due to all of the people heading in and out of the restaurant I was unable to take a peek of the restaurant like I had originally hoped.) We quickly ordered what seemed to be the most talked about cake online. The Orange Crunch Cake. Now I will be honest all of the cakes looked absolutely amazing but at something like 7.00 a slice and 800 calories a bite, you gotta be choosy.

We took our cake outside to enjoy. The cakes wrapping wasn’t anything fancy. Paper plate with saran wrap….fine by me I’m no Mrs. Fancy Pants.

Now what you have been waiting for…the first bite. Oh my goodness. It was AMAZING. After that one bite our original plan of just taking a few bites and saving the rest for later nearly went out the window. It was just too good.

Now I’m sure the Bubble Room will not love this comparison but for me it was like eating an orange hostess cupcake and multiplying the yumminess by 100.

We were able to eventually stop eating and did save a few crumbs for later :).

My final thoughts: We will be back to the Bubble Room on future vacations. I can’t imagine the other deserts tasting as heavenly as the Orange Crunch cake….but I am up to the challenge of trying them all.

Cheeburger Cheeburger Review- Sanibel Florida

I am the type of person that considers restaurants and meals part of the total experience of vacation. I spend hours and hours looking up reviews and making plans of every restaurant I want visit. To some this may sound crazy but for me it is part of the fun and allows us to avoid the “I cant believe we ate there” moments….most of the time 🙂

Our first trip to Sanibel two months ago was like most others. I researched and made a list of all my favorites and got a chance to try most of them. Over the next comple of weeks I will be posting reviews of my experiences.

First Up: Cheeburger Cheeburger

(Photo found on TripAdvisor)

Now this actually was NOT on my list of must dos when leaving home. After a few hours at the beach and talking to another family about our love for a good burger they pointed us to Cheeburger Cheeburger. Wedecided to give it a try and arrived for an early dinner around 5pm.

First Impression: Nice Exterior. Connected to a little shopping center with a few stores. At first we were thrown off my the empty parking lot, but realized that was likely due to it only being  5 o’clock  and most people being on island time…haha. However our impressions were lowered once we were actually inside the restaurant. Was it terrible? No. Everything just felt a bit past its prime. I’m sure most people wouldn’t mind the condition at all, maybe I just had high expectations??

After taking a few minutes to look at the menu we decided that we weren’t all that hungry so we would share a Semi Serious Burger (1/3lb) and order a medium “Best of Both” (fries and onion rings serves 2/3). One of the highlight of the burger was the endless free toppings. Boy O Boy, we took advantage of that.

I think we ended up getting: Lettuce, Tomato, Onions, Pickle, Mayo, BBQ Sauce, 2 Onion Rings (really!?!),Banana Peppers,Coleslaw,Pineapple, and Relish. Ya, we went all out. 🙂 Our server also offered to have it cut in half which was really nice.

Cheeburger burger

Sorry about not so great picture. This was taken before I had any intention of reviewing our meals. (Yes, we have always taken pictures of our food on our trips…we are weird like that). Although quite messy and not all the appetizing in the picture, we enjoyed this burger. Was it the best we have ever had…no. Would I make it a must do on future trips…no. But all together it was pretty good.

Now along with our burger we had this monster:

This is the “Best of Both” basket. This is where my review goes downhill a little bit. I will admit in the picture they look pretty darn tasty… But in real life, not so much. The problem we had with these was the grease. They were SO greasy. This is probably the time I should point out that I LOVE french fries. I have been known to order a salad and a side of fries for lunch. You give me a good fry and I am a happy camper. I really wanted to love this basket but I just didn’t.  The onion rings weren’t quite up to par either. I like a nice thick onion though, so that may have been the problem there. A few other people in our group decided to eat here a little later in the week and had the same experience with the grease , so I felt better that we weren’t alone in our thinking.

All together I would say that we had an okay experience at Cheeburger Cheeburger. I’m sure you can come to the conclusion that we likely wouldn’t put this on our must do list, but are glad that we gave it a try. If you have any questions feel free to ask
